60
Minutes and Mike Wallace CBS Evening News followed up on a four year old 60 Minutes story by Mike
Wallace called "Joe Yandle's Life Was a Lie" (Monday, August 24,1998 - 08:58 PM
ET). The updated story said that in 1995 an individual named Jud Burkett found that
Yandle had not served in Vietnam nor received a Bronze Star as reported by Mike Wallace
and sixty minutes in 1994. The story should have been called "60 Minutes mislead public for 4
years by failing to verify facts". Sure Yandle is a liar, but the reporting by
60 Minutes was sloppy and unprofessional. The question of why 60 minutes relied on
Yandle as a sole source without checking with the Marine Corps or Department of Defense
never came up. I wonder why? The fact that a respected news magazine like 60
Minutes can be so easily duped brings into question the credibility of all news. Someone who has been bringing the credibiltiy of the news media into question for years is Joey Skaggs America's most notorious socio-political satirist. Click on PRANKS to see his work.
