Denial of the
Obvious
Dear Infoukes:
In response to an article by Volodymyr Ishchenko on the activity of the
"far right" during the Yanukovych era and especially during the
Euromaidan demonstrations from 21Nov2013 to 22Feb2014, I have appended
the following comments:
I take issue with Volodymyr Ishchenko labeling (and demonizing) Svoboda
as a "far right" political party. In my opinion, they are neither
"right" nor "left", but "patriotic" Ukrainians determined to establish
an "independent" Ukraine free from the tyranny of Putin's Russian
Empire and the corruption of the Oligarchs dominating Ukraine's
political elite. The Oligarch-dominated news media has consistently
demonized Svoboda and its leader, Oleh Tyahnybok. It refused to report
on the large popular demonstrations/marches on 03Apr2018 protesting
Oligarchic rule and continues to do so.
Figures 1 and 2 below, demonstrate that throughout the Yanukovych era
(2010 to 22Feb2014) Svoboda was, by far, the most active party
protesting the anti-Ukrainian policies of the Yanukovych government. It
is very likely that, if it were not for Svoboda, the Euromaidan
protests would have petered out. And if it were not for Svoboda and
Right Sector, Viktor Yanukovych would not have fled to Russia on
22Feb2014. To conclude, if it were not for Svoboda and Right Sector, it
is likely that, today, Russian troops would be patrolling the streets
of Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities.
Yours sincerely
