Letters to Laurence A. Tisch, Chairman and CEO of CBS, 1986-1995
@
Letter 01 17-Dec-1994 How's it going?
Laurence Tisch is the co-chairman of
Loews Corporation, a company that
acquired Lorillard Tobacco in 1960. Lorillard is the third-largest maker of cigarettes in the US, and accounts for 25% of Loews profits.
Tisch and his brother Preston have been
involved in a number of corporate
takeovers including the acquisition of CBS,
which they sold to Westinghouse Electric
Corporation in 1995.
In Sept 1997, with $2.4 billion to his name, Laurence Tisch ranked 61st on the Forbes list of richest Americans.
For his role in broadcasting The Ugly Face of Freedom, it might be worth boycotting: Loews cinemas, and Lorillard cigarette brands Newport, Kent, and Old Gold.

"His only interest was money, and he turned the best broadcasting company in the business into one of the weakest and got even richer in the process." Andy Rooney |
