Yaro Bihun   Ukrainian Weekly   25-Jan-1998   Rabbi Bleich singles out Eduard Hurvits as "very popular"
It is curious that of all Hurvits characteristics that might be salient, rabbi Bleich mentions that Hurvits is "very popular," and quite neglects to mention that he has been accused of corruption and that those who criticize him, or who attempt to testify against him, end up becoming the victims of intimidation or of contract killings.

Turning to politics, he [rabbi Yaakov Dov Bleich, Hasidic rabbi of Kyiv and Ukraine] cited several prominent Jewish politicians, including six deputies in the Verkhovna Rada, and singled out the very popular mayor of Odesa [Eduard Hurvits], as well as the governor of Vinnytsia.  He expects that more Jews will be getting into politics in the future, and, unlike their predecessors, they will not hesitate to pursue the agenda of the Jewish community.  (Yaro Bihun, Ukrainian Weekly, 25-Jan-1998, p. 15)
