VANCOUVER/CKNW(980) The mother of a 23-year old North Vancouver man killed by a drunk driver a year ago is hoping her demands for tougher sentences will get more than lip service from Attorney General Wally Oppal.

Maria Firenze says Justice Minister Irwin Cotler wasn't sympathetic when she begged him for the same thing earlier Monday, but she's pleased Oppal has asked to review the judge's ruling involving her son's death.

"At least someone's willing to look at it. If they were more severe, maybe people would think twice about getting behind the wheel when they're intoxicated."

The young woman sentenced to two years in prison following the January 20th death of David Firenze had two prior drunk driving convictions. During her sentencing hearing a week ago, Jenny Woloshyn was also banned from driving for ten years.
