- In a farewell speech on 17Jan2017, the United States’ Ambassador to the United Nations, Samantha Power, described Russia as a “major threat” facing the United States and the rules-based liberal world order, and cautioned Americans against allowing Moscow to divide them in the face of this threat. Since the annexation of Crimea and the Russian "hybrid" invasion of Eastern Ukraine commencing in March 2014, Ms. Power has been one of Ukraine's staunchest supporters.

- James Henry documents a large number of links between Donald Trump and Russian mobsters. which reinforces my fear that the next four years will see the evolution of an "overt criminal-corrupt regime headed by Donald Trump". Links to reports of the U.S. intelligence services and Christopher Steele (ex-British intelligence) are also provided.

- Victor Rud derides the "art" of solving the world's problems by making deals at other people's expense.

- Carl Bildt paints a realistic picture of Russian imperialism from the Czarist Empire, through the Bolshevik communist era, and to the present-day Putin regime.

- Halya Coynash is appalled at Donald Trump's approval of torture. She details the torture used by the FSB to obtain false confessions from Ukrainian political prisoners.
