Trump Administration attempts to discredit the FBI and the Steele
Dossier
There is a danger that the United
States under Donald Trump will be transformed into a Mafia state very
similar to that of the Russian Federation under Vladimir Putin.
Since
late January 2018, political operatives for Donald Trump have initiated
a counter attack against Robert Mueller's investigation by trying to
discredit the FBI and the Steele Dossier. At the forefront of the
attack appear to be letters to DNC personnel from GOP Senators Grassley
and Graham demanding information on the Steele Dossier and the
so-called Nunes "Memo" attributed to GOP Congressman Devin Nunes. Links
to these documents, as well as my short summary, are provided below.
Strangely, they concentrate only on the period April to November 2016,
when Fusion GPS (and by extension Christopher Steele) was being paid by
the Democratic Party, but ignore the much longer period dating back
to 2015 when Fusion GPS was being paid by the Republican
Party (or their sympathizers). Even more strange is that they
accuse Christopher
Steele of being "biased" against Donald
Trump, when he uncovered evidence that Mr. Trump and his supporters
were collaborating with Russian intelligence services. Of course he
would be concerned or "biased"! Any normal person interested in the
security of Britain and the United States would be.
Donald Trump
demands blind "loyalty" from his subordinates and expects blind
"loyalty" from the FBI and other American institutions. This is
dictatorship. Should he succeed in compromising the independence of law
enforcement and the judiciary, there is a danger that the United States
under Donald Trump will be
transformed into a Mafia state very similar to that of the Russian
Federation under Vladimir Putin. The similarities are striking!

Grassley20180125(SteeleDossier)6Letters.pdf
On
25Jan2018, Senators Charles Grassley and Lindsey Graham sent a 4-page
letter (almost identical) to 6 organizations or individuals associated
with the Democratic Party 2016 presidential election campaign.
-
First, they refer to the Democratic Party hiring Christopher Steele,
via Fusion GPS, for the period of April to November 2016 "to make
allegations against Donald Trump and his associates".
- Then they
imply "improper political influence" ... "in seeking judicial
authorization for surveillance of individuals associated with Donald
Trump".
- Next, they pose 12 questions as to the recipient's knowledge of the Steele Dossier, the Buzzfeed publication and any other distribution thereoff, and everything else of relevance.
- They conclude by demanding "all related documents" by 08Feb2018.

Nunes20180129(SteeleDossier)Memo.pdf
On
02Feb2018, Donald McGahn (Counsel for the President) wrote a 2-page
covering letter to Congressman Devin Nunes referring to the 29Jan2018
"House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence"decision to disclose
publicly the 4-page "Memo" dated 18Jan2018 titled "Forign Intelligence
Surveillance Act Abuses at the Department of Justice and the Federal
Bureau of Investigation". The "President has determined that
declassification of the Memorandum is appropriate".
The "Memo"
questions the legality of the 16Oct2016 order received by the DOJ and
FBI "authorizing electronic surveillance on Carter Page".
- In 5
listed points, the rest of the "Memo" weaves a web of innuendo against
Christopher Steele, Deputy Attorney General Bruce Ohr and his wife, and
others.
- Reference is also made to Deputy Attorney Generals Yates and Rosenstein, Director Comey and Deputy Director McCabe.
- The final paragraph refers to George Papadopoulos and FBI personnel Pete Strozk and his mistress Lisa Page.
