No Denials
Re: “The truth about the media,” July 19, 2011:
The late Doug Collins was no “Holocaust denier,” as Warren Kinsella
claims. What Collins had was the temerity to question the received
version of World War II history. Opinion-makers like Peter Worthington
and the late Doug Fisher hailed Collins in the pages of Sun Media for
his frontline courage as a British Army veteran during the Hitler war
and his brash style as a newsman. In his 1968 wartime memoir POW: A
Soldier’s Story of His Ten Escapes from Nazi Prison Camps (New York:
W.W. Norton), Collins cited the figure of four million as the death
toll for the Auschwitz concentration camp; today the number given out
is about a million. Collins, admittedly as irascible as the late Gordon
Sinclair, merely noted the fact that history isn’t written in stone.
