Black Days
Missing from the media scrum surrounding Lord and Lady Black outside a
Chicago courthouse was a Greek chorus delivering a
mournful editorial comment on the nature of hubris. With
timely restitution, Conrad Black could have made all his legal woes
disappear. But like U.S. President Richard Nixon, whose biography he’s
written, Black was undone by his own unbending character. To
quote Nixon: “I brought myself down.”
