Many years ago, my wife won a door prize in a draw for the local ice
capades. The emcee struggled to read her name over the hockey arena’s
PA system before uttering the last syllable with palpable relief. He
then drew a second name. There was a pregnant pause before he was heard
to softly sigh, “Oh, no.” Then gamely added: “And our winner, again, is
Mrs. Slip . . . Slap . . .”
