Madoff suicide
Re: “Bernie Madoff’s son found dead in apparent suicide,” Dec. 11, 2010.
If the tragic news of son Mark’s suicide draws Bernie Madoff down into
a pit of grief, remorse, and recrimination, this will be a good thing,
however painful. It will mean the disgraced financier still retains
some humanity. If his reaction is mild, then we’ll know he’s beyond
redemption; a heart of darkness. What’s also tragic is a lot of us
would not be surprised to learn that, in fact, he received the news of
the suicide with equanimity.
