Such juvenile conceit

To understand what gives the story its edge -- that of Alberta Health Services CEO Stephen Duckett palming off a media scrum claiming he was too busy "eating a cookie" to answer questions following a roundtable on provincial health care -- is, of course, the major medical and political news story that preceded it.

Just days earlier, as everyone knows, MLA Dr. Raj Sherman had assailed Premier Ed Stelmach's government with an angry and anguished outburst for failing to provide adequate and timely health care for ER patients across the province.

That left a sense of profound malaise in its wake.

Those who then heard of the cookie incident from mortified reporters, with the Sherman outburst still fresh in the public mind, naturally reacted to his display of juvenile conceit in exactly the same mortified way.
