Synchronicity is cute
Empty chairs stood where the Israeli delegation should have been during
President Obama’s address to the 65th U.N. General Assembly. Its
absence, which coincided with the second day of the Jewish holiday,
Sukkot, was understandable if unfortunate, considering U.S. President
Barack Obama’s address included an urgent appeal for his fellow world
leaders to get behind Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations currently
under way. A blunder by a protocol chief? A bad omen? Tell-tale
symbolism? Or, to paraphrase Freud, is absence sometimes just absence?
