No moral high ground
Re: “Anger over Israel floods other frustrations,” Theo Caldwell,
Edmonton Sun.
Caldwell invites readers to “tell us what Israel should do” to solve
the Palestinian problem. With hundreds of thousands of Jewish colonists
settled in the West Bank, it’s obvious the two-state solution is no
longer viable: no way would Israeli soldiers obey orders to massively
expel the Jewish colonists. Hence, a one-state solution. Israel absorbs
the West Bank and grants Israeli citizenship to all Arabs, and gives
them equal rights. Israel would, of course, cease being an exclusively
Jewish state. But the present status quo is unsustainable, for what it
yields is an apartheid regime so flagrant in its daily abuses of
Palestinian rights that, over time, even Israel’s American Sugar Daddy
would look to distance itself.
