Article on Judaism missed
the mark
Israel's Jewish communities are crisscrossed by numerous fault lines:
The Lubavitch versus Satmar, Labour versus Shas, Sephardim versus
Ashkenazim, Orthodox versus Reform. But strife and tension in the great
divide between secular and religious Jews has long been simmering. A
dozen years ago Time magazine reported telltale signs of it: "Cars have
been stoned. Religious centres have been fire-bombed. Excrement has
been thrown. People on both sides have been assaulted on the street. A
prime minister has been murdered."
Against that grisly backdrop, one wonders how long will it be before
professional anti-Semites, stewing in their own emotive irrationality,
start accusing the Jews of stealing their thunder?
