Everest in a swimsuit
Re: ‘BP needs another rebranding,’ Lorrie Goldstein, May 27, 2010.
Kennedy-era technocrat McGeorge Bundy gave us the cautionary subtext to
BP’s Gulf oil spill with eight prescient words: “There is no safety in
unlimited technological hubris.”
Drilling down thousands of feet beneath a mile of sea water, BP’s
venture was fraught with risk. Were warning signs heeded, it’s likely
this marine equivalent of the Chernobyl nuclear accident would’ve never
happened. Rebranding BP again will be like scaling Everest in a
swimsuit.
