"Clergy rallies for Pope"
Re: "Clergy rallies for Pope", Andrew Hanon, Edmonton Sun, March 31,
2010.
A Kennedy-era parish priest I knew was said to run an ingenious little
scam. First, he'd ask local furniture and appliance retailers in town
to donate items for prizes. Then he'd sell raffle tickets to a draw for
the prizes, but would actually hold no draw to determine winners.
Instead he would keep the prizes and pocket all the proceeds from the
ticket sale. In his defence, a number of church members would argue
that 'at least he leaves the women alone'. A couple of generations
since, I expect the cynicism on either side of the ecclesiastical
divide must've increased by several orders of magnitude.

Father Ted pulled that one, too.)
