McCarthyism?
Dear Professor Braun,
I draw your attention to the letter copied below from the March 2, 2010
edition of Toronto Star.
It is, of course, unflattering; but is it unfair? Naturally, I expect
that you should and will respond.
“McCarthyism?” Them’s fightin’ words -- or word, in this case. Let’s
keep the pot boiling, shall we?
Debate and transparency are good -- however much they may alarm the
plutocratic among us.
Sincerely,
Orest Slepokura
Strathmore, Alta.

Re: Expecting transparency from rights agency, Letter Feb. 27,2010,
Toronto Star
Professor Aurel Braun, chair, board of directors, Rights and Democracy
would have us believe he and his colleagues were given their
appointments so as to bring a sense of fiscal order to this
organization. They were appointed to ensure this organization would
follow the "unwritten" Stephen Harper Middle East foreign policy:
"Israel –- right or wrong" –- and have been found out.
In direct contrast to Chairman Braun and his two colleagues, I do not
subscribe to the view that human rights are divisible or that some
human beings or nation states are immune from criticisms of human
rights policies because of either religious beliefs or nationality.
The McCarthyism in Braun's letter is even more abhorrent.
