Re: 'Nanaimo MP needs to work harder for his constituents' (Daily News, March 5, 2009)
Columnist Darrell Bellaart notes that Gerry Cuttler, chairman for the Pacific Region branch of the Canadian Jewish Congress, has said Canadian MPs "have an obligation to look beyond the boundaries of their ridings" to promote human rights and combat racism and discrimination.
Of course, when James Lunney attended a conference on anti-Semitism in London, England, he was looking at an issue far beyond the boundaries of our nation -- not merely his Vancouver Island riding.
That said, does anyone know whether the Nanaimo-Alberni MP has at least made a statement condemning the third-place finish of Avigdor Lieberman's Our Homeland Party in the February election in Israel?
I ask because party leader Lieberman is on record professing his belief that Arab citizens in the Jewish state ought to endure official discrimination from Israel, along with the curtailment of their human rights as Israeli citizens. He is also on record making crudely racist remarks against Arabs. I was just wondering if Lunney has spoken out against this outrage.
