Re: "Nazi hunters renew efforts after reports on top target" ...
This article by Kate Connelly in the 07Feb09 Guardian is posted at this
URL
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/feb/07/warcrimes-germany
and contains this extraordinary paragraph, filled with inaccuracies:
"Other names prominent on
the wanted list include Ivan (otherwise known
as John) Demjanjuk, the former Ukrainian concentration camp guard
nicknamed "Ivan the Terrible", who
was said to have participated in the deaths of thousands of prisoners
at Treblinka. The 89-year-old lives in the US and is facing a new
trial."
John Demjanjuk was held in Israel between February 1986 and
September 1993 and tried and ultimately acquitted of being "Ivan
the Terrible" of Treblinka by the Israeli Supreme, and released to
go home to his family in Ohio.
I'm surprised you didn't hear or know of this. It was in all the
newspapers at the time.
Also: John Demjanjuk is 88 - not 89 - years old.
Sincerely,
