Re: "Crazed crowd," Paul Jackson, (July 05, 2005). Famines in Ethiopia were the centre of concern at the 1985 Live Aid fundraising concert. Unmentioned was the ruling Mengistu regime's waste of $100 million to $200 million on the 10th anniversary celebrations of its 1974 Marxist revolution that forced the collectivization of Ethiopian agriculture and wholesale relocation of farm communities, leaving food production in disarray and Ethiopia's treasury empty, with millions at risk of death by starvation. Foreign aid helped keep a crazed, criminal regime in power.
