Lynndie England -- woman in American society?

The Editor:

The May 19 letter [Calgary Sun, May 19, 2004] from Yvonne France suggests that the torture of Iraqi men in Abu Ghraib prison should be seen as instructive, teaching them "what it is like to be an Iraqi woman in their society."

What, then, will she say after we learn that American MPs had also tortured Iraqi women there? Meanwhile, ought we to conclude Pfc. Lynndie England reveals what it is like to be a woman in American society?

Sincerely,

Letter to Editor

Iraqi prisoners complained about being humiliated, tortured, put on a leash, confined to four walls, made to cover their faces and heads and treated like they are the scum of the Earth, that is, being less than human. Well now these Iraqi men know what it is like to be an Iraqi woman in their society.

Yvonne France
