Torture continues in Iraq

Strathmore, Alta. -- American military police officers, CBS television revealed last week, have been inflicting tortures on Iraqi prisoners at Saddam's notorious Abu Ghraib prison (Did U.S. Abuse Prisoners In Iraq? -- Globe and Mail, Thursday, April 29, 2004).

Yet, when President George Bush faced reporters on Friday, alongside Prime Minister Paul Martin, he hailed the end of torture in Iraqi jails with the fall of Saddam's regime. The irony of this might have been lost on Mr. Bush's supporters, but not on the billion Muslims around the world.

America's moral high ground in its war to liberate Iraq has become a molehill.
