Humanitarian compassion

The Editor:

Ezra Levant ascribes "humanitarian compassion" to Ariel Sharon ("We're all Israelis now," Calgary Sun, March 31, 2003), as if the bombing of the residential districts in West Beirut using chemical bombs in August 1982 by the Israeli air force while he served as Israeli defence minister was a mirage. Still, far stranger things have happened. For example, in 1938, the year of Kristallnacht, Jewish-American novelist Gertrude Stein wrote the Nobel Committee to nominate Adolf Hitler for the peace prize.
