Re: "The new target terror," Lorrie Goldstein, Toronto Sun, October 9, 2001.
In the summer of 1982, Israeli forces lobbed phosphorous and cluster bombs on the residential districts of west Beirut, resulting in a civilian death toll three times higher than the World Trade Center and Pentagon bombings. These Israeli terror-bombings were punctuated by massacres of still more civilians at the Sabra and Chatila refugee camps. The war criminal responsible for this carnage, Ariel Sharon, is now Prime Minister of Israel.
To identify with Israel, as Lorrie Goldstein suggests, means we identify with a state run by a war criminal responsible for killing and maiming tens of thousands of civilians.
Kosher for Goldstein maybe, but not for anyone concerned with terrorism in a non-partisan way.
