RE "FALWELL the foolish," (Michael Coren, Sept. 22, 2001):
Falwell the foolish?
Try, Falwell the canny. Jerry Falwell is a show-business personality, who
happens to be a salesman whose product is salvation through Jesus Christ.
Like Michael Coren (another show-business personality), he, too, has an
adversarial streak which may at times get the better of him, when he really
"steps in it," as they say. Seems, he "realized" comments he made to fellow
salesman Pat Robertson, linking the WTC atrocity to behaviours by
homosexuals and others, were over the top and he recanted. A wise career
move. Mind you, saying provocative things is part of his attention-getting
modus operandi, which is simply to be talked about.
Give my regards to Broadway, Jerry!
