Oakville, Ont. -- Liberal MP Andrew Telegdi's unfortunate comparison of Canadian attempts to deport Helmut Oberlander to those of Stalinist or Nazi regimes was obviously ridiculous and, therefore, pure hyperbole (MP Under Fire For 'Hitler' Remark -- Globe and Mail, May 8, 2001).
Far more troubling to me was the extreme reaction of his critics, especially Edgar Bronfman's call for Mr. Telegdi's resignation from the Liberal caucus. This is political correctness at its worst and invites a much more valid comparison with the Nazis and Communists.
