WORK ENVIRONMENT: The Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes Section is an investigative body of the Department of Justice. According to its government mandate the office investigates and prosecutes war crimes committed during the Second World War in Eastern Europe. As a result, the War Crimes Section has the obligations to follow allegations against suspected collaborators and perpetrators who immigrated to Canada after WW11 and to bring them to court.

The War Crimes Section is currently filling a position for an historian or political scientist for its war crimes program. Applicants should be able to work in a interdisciplinary working environment together with lawyers and research staff. Motivation, the ability to work independently and to exercise good judgement are essential.

EDUCATION: Candidates must have a graduate degree in World War II and contemporary history or international affairs in the 20th century. (Ph.D's will be given preference)

EXPERIENCE: Experience in conducting research activities. Experience in the research, development, and presentation of complex material pertaining to the perpetration of war crimes particularly in during World War II in Europe, but not exclusive to World War II. A preference may be given to candidates who have conducted research on the German occupation of Eastern Europe during WW11 with main emphasis on Byelorussia.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS / COMMENTS: LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: Must be fluent in the German and English languages (reading, writing, oral).

Willingness to travel abroad for extended periods of time, to conduct research in archives and other institutions as required.

Candidates may be assessed by a variety of methods, which may include a written exam as well as an interview.
