Subject: Article on Michael Seifert by Rob Mickleburgh
Dear Editor:
Can you tell our over 1,000 Alberta members why Mr. Seifert and Otto Stein were identified as "Ukrainian-born" in this article? Of what significance is such (inaccurate) labeling? Whose interests does it serve? Is your newspaper pandering again to the out-of-control dictates of certain irresponsible lobbies?
As for the "witnesses" (conveniently provided by the then Soviet disinformation machine) who described atrocities allegedly committed by "Ukrainians", did Mr. Mickleburgh corroborate these fairy-stories? Why not?
When your newspaper infrequently and begrudgingly mentions the Ukrainian Famine 1932-33, do your reporters state the ethnic background of those who, factually, committed these crimes against humanity? And why not?
Shame on the Globe and Mail for practicing yellow journalism. A retraction is in order.
Disgusted,
Eugene Harasymiw, LL.B.
