I was absolutely floored to hear CKNW (Vancouver) talk show host Peter Warren's cowardly commentary on Saturday July 30, 2005 about the "five elderly alleged nazi war criminals" slated for deportation. He delivered it at about 8:10 a.m. and it is archived at www.cknw.com on their Audio Vault page.

Below is what he said (pardon the rough transcription). Attached is the message I sent him.

The federal immigration department is once again seeking cabinet approval to strip the citizenship of five elderly alleged Nazi war criminals.

They are: Helmut Oberlander, interpreter with notorious killing squad [German name quoted here]; Jacob Fast, collaborator; Vladimir Katriuk, collaborator; Labour guard Wasyl Odynsky; SS member Michael Baumgartner.

It is claimed all five lied about their pasts to gain entry to this country. That�s all well and good that we chuck them out, but for far too long the feds have acted like timid little kittens in dealing with alleged war criminals.

In fact if you check the record you will discover that Helmut Oberlander in fact had his Canadian citizenship revoked in 2001 after a federal court found he had lied about his role in the infamous Nazi police during the 2nd world war. But if you check even further you will find that Herr Oberlander then appealed and,claiming he was never asked about his wartime activities, actually had his Canadian citizenship reinstated.

Regarding your Saturday morning "chicken" comment on CKNW July 30, 2005.

What a shock it was to hear that from you!

You have been acquainted with the facts surrounding these alleged Nazi war criminals. Presumably you checked the records, in which case you would have found that not only is there in fact no evidence these men lied to gain entry and that, particularly in the case of Wasyl Odynsky, the courts in fact found them innocent of any criminal wrongdoing during WWII. But you know that, don't you?

No doubt you also know these men have been law-abiding, productive citizens for the past 60+ years. And that they in fact have no right of appeal in this process, which is conducted behind closed doors instead of in the open where other cases are tried. And that what is being done to them is in violation of the Canadian Charter of Human Rights. I also have no doubt you are not the only one in the media who knows all this, as well as that no one is coming to their defence except a few well-informed and concerned (if not downright terrified) private Canadian citizens.

Few in the mainstream media have the guts to report the facts of this issue truthfully, and fewer still (in fact, none so far) have the backbone to expose this witch hunt for the scam and the abuse of power it is.

So who's really chicken, Peter?

Are you developing a Jekyll-Hyde personality? Perhaps such a disorder could explain your "chicken" skit on CKNW Radio, Saturday, July 30, 2005, during which you supported the denaturalization and deportation of Helmut Oberlander, Jacob Fast, Vladimir Katriuk, Wasyl Odynsky and Michael Baumgartner. You refer to these people as "alleged Nazi war criminals"; whereas it has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt in the courts that they are neither Nazis nor war criminals.

Have you forgotten the letter that you read on your Show on May 07, 2001, in which Paulette MacQuarrie contrasts the Canadian government's benevolent treatment of foreign con artists bilking American seniors of millions of dollars to the draconian treatment of Wasyl Odynsky, who has been an upstanding Canadian citizen for over 50 years?

I also understand that on Father's Day, Sunday, June 19, 2005, you hosted Frank Diamant of B'nai Brith Canada and allowed him to "hate-monger" against David Ahenakew, even as a judicial ruling on his court case was pending.

In conclusion, I would urge you to restrain your drift towards "hate mongering" and develop a "love, truth and righteousness" approach for the Peter Warren Show.
