USRL Resolution on d&d

On 11Aug2007 at their biennial convention in Winnipeg, the Ukrainian Self-Reliance League of Canada (USRL = CYC) adopted the following:

Resolution #5 - Denaturalization and Deportation

WHEREAS the late Eugene Harasymiw has provided the USRA (TYC) with much research and resolutions on the issue of denaturalization and deportation (d&d) and this work has been continued by Dr. William Zuzak, and

WHEREAS on May 17, 2007 a committee of federal cabinet ministers decided not to revoke the citizenship of Wasyl Odynsky and Vladimir Katriuk, but did revoke the citizenship of Ukrainian-born Helmut Oberlander and Jacob Fast, and

WHEREAS the German Canadian Congress has appealed to Canadian organizations and individuals to sign the online petition at
http://www.petitiononline.com/ober2007/
asking the federal government to restore the citizenship of Helmut Oberlander, and

WHEREAS Josef Furman (Edmonton) and Yura Skomatchuk (St. Catharines) are still in danger of having their citizenship revoked, such that denaturalization and deportation is still a major issue for the Ukrainian Canadian community,

BE IT RESOLVED that the new USRL (CYC) National Executive, in conjunction with the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, continue to work on the issues of denaturalization and deportation, to encourage the Ukrainian community to sign the above-mentioned petition, and to petition the federal government to abandon the d&d process and issue an apology and financial compensation to the victims of this unjust process.
