PETITION
TO THE HOUSE OF COMMONS
IN PARLIAMENT ASSEMBLED

We, the undersigned residents of Canada, draw the attention of the House to the following:

WHEREAS on June 7, 2005 the Standing Committee of Citizenship and Immigration tabled its 10th Report to Parliament entitled "Citizenship Revocation: A Question of Due Process and Respecting Charter Rights", and

WHEREAS the recommendations in this Report ensure that citizenship revocation is a completely judicial process, free from political interference and consistent with the provisions of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and

WHEREAS the recommendations in this Report received all party support from the Committee and the Report was concurred unanimously in the House on June 16, 2005, and

WHEREAS the vast majority of ethnic, legal, and civil liberties groups, and individuals who gave evidence to the Committee on these matters supported these recommendations,

THEREFORE, your petitioners call upon Parliament to implement these recommendations in a new Citizenship Act in this Parliament.
