Bereza Kartuzka
1934-1939 Promo 1 English version
Ukrainian-Polish relations in the 1920's and 30's in Western Ukraine
Multi-Award winning documentary. Get to know Ukrainian history.
[W.Z.
Circa 11Jul2016, the Polish Senate and Sejm declared the 11Jul1943
ethnic cleansing of Poles in the Volyn region as a genocide against
Polish residents in the Eastern Polish Territories. In his documentary
film "Bereza Kartuzka", Yurij Luhovy documents the atrocities
perpetrated against Ukrainian patriots (such as his own father) at the
concentration camp bearing that name. The three short promotion
excerpts in both English and Ukrainian provide background information
as to the origins of the senseless Polish-Ukrainian civil war raging in
Western Ukraine (or Eastern Poland) starting with WWI and culminating
with "Operation
Vistula" in
1947, which forcibly resettled populations across the Curzon line.
It
is to be hoped that Mr. Luhovy will also produce Polish and Belorusan
versions of his documentary.]
