As the world recoiled at the carnage in Norway, Lockerbie bomber
Abdelbaset al-Megrahi -- freed on compassionate grounds two years ago
by the Scottish government with an expectation he would soon die from
prostate cancer -- was literally wheeled out at a rally in Tripoli in
support of Libyan strongman Colonel Gaddafi, where he was feted as a
hero and victim of a criminal conspiracy. The morbid, surreal nature of
it seemed altogether par for the course with recent events.
