No Denials

Re: “The truth about the media,” July 19, 2011:

The late Doug Collins was no “Holocaust denier,” as Warren Kinsella claims. What Collins had was the temerity to question the received version of World War II history. Opinion-makers like Peter Worthington and the late Doug Fisher hailed Collins in the pages of Sun Media for his frontline courage as a British Army veteran during the Hitler war and his brash style as a newsman. In his 1968 wartime memoir POW: A Soldier’s Story of His Ten Escapes from Nazi Prison Camps (New York: W.W. Norton), Collins cited the figure of four million as the death toll for the Auschwitz concentration camp; today the number given out is about a million. Collins, admittedly as irascible as the late Gordon Sinclair, merely noted the fact that history isn’t written in stone.
