Professor Tom Flanagan’s suggestion that U.S. President
Barack “Obama should put out a contract and maybe use a drone”
to assassinate WikiLeaks head Julian Assange was neither
“manly” nor funny. Drones tend to kill people
indiscriminately.Oftentimes, as our Pakistani allies have repeatedly
told us, the intended targets and innocent bystanders will all perish
together in the blast. Certainly, they don’t require the wannabe
assassin employing such means to get up close and personal in the way a
manly commando might. Meanwhile, the University of Calgary talking head
has followed up his irresponsible commentary with a glib apology.
Academic gravitas? Fugetaboutit!
