The Editor:

What Robert Fulford fails to mention in his sketch of Klein Halevi's bio ("A shrewd journalist - but also a pilgrim," National Post, November 2, 2002) was how murderous Jewish anti-Semitism drove him away from far-right Zionist extremism toward the center of Israeli poitics.

In an essay written shortly after the assassination of Israeli prime minister Yitzhak Rabin ("A Murder Foreshadowed," Time, November 20, 1995), Halevi described Israel's political center as "an increasingly lonely place."

Now that the second Palestinian Intifada is well into its third year, I can only suppose that the sense of isolation Halevi was experiencing has neither ceased nor diminished.
