More than million people currently living in Ukraine suffered from Holodomor

More than a million people currently living in Ukraine suffered from Holodomor [Ukraine’s Great Famine] in 1932-33.

Ihor Yukhnovskiy, head of the Ukrainian Institute for National Memory, said this to UNIAN.

According to him, the information about victims is collected and worked out by local state administrations. Later the information will be passed to regional state archives. According to the information of I.Yukhnovskiy, as of today, 210 thousand testimonies of Holodomor victims have been recorded.

Commenting on the decree of President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko of June 12, 2009, on honoring the memory of Holodomor victims and granting them with aid, I.Yukhnovskiy noted that the matter concerns people born before 1932-33, whose age is over 70 at present, so the top-priority task is to provide them with medical and social aid.
