May the Canadian voter ask questions of the power behind the throne?

"Given that a vote for the Liberals in the current federal election appears to be a vote for Gerry Schwartz influence over the Canadian government, Canadian voters might have a right to know where Gerry Schwartz stands on questions of public interest." Lubomyr Prytulak

Gerald W Schwartz:

Political writing in Canada portrays you as the power behind the Canadian throne:

Mr. Schwartz, president of Onex Corporation, and the top corporate fundraiser for Paul Martin's successful leadership campaign, will have helped raise an estimated and whopping $11-million by the Nov. 15 leadership convention.  Mr. Schwartz's wife, Ms. Reisman, is head of Chapters Books.

"Except for Sheila Martin, Gerry and his wife are the people who have more influence on Martin than anybody," a top Liberal strategist told The Hill Times.

Mr. Schwartz's American Farm Inc. donated $75,000 and Onex Corp. donated another $75,000 to Mr. Martin's leadership campaign.

Mr. Schwartz and Ms. Reisman will also host a fundraiser dinner on Dec. 10 in Toronto.  The dinner is expected to raise $2.4-million in one night and could pay off the Liberal Party's $1.5-million debt.

Angelo Persichilli, "Schwartz, Reisman to be influential players when Martin takes over," The Hill Times, 13-Oct-2003  www.ukar.org/cotler/cotler-press-2003-10-13.html.

That is, if you are able to command a donation of $75,000 from each of N sources, then your personal influence over Paul Martin may be proportional to N times $75,000, and if you are able to repeatedly raise sums in the order of $11-million and $2.4-million, then this may give you further influence over the Liberal government proportional to the total of all the millions raised, if it is perceived that those millions would not have been forthcoming without your participation.

Given that a vote for the Liberals in the current federal election appears to be a vote for Gerry Schwartz influence over the Canadian government, Canadian voters might have a right to know where Gerry Schwartz stands on questions of public interest, perhaps beginning with the following:

  1. The efficacy of Canadian laws in restricting the purchase of government favor.

  2. The Canadian Jewish Congress violating Canadian Human Rights Act § 60 and Canadian Criminal Code § 341 in its suppression or destruction of litigation documents for the purpose of silencing a Ukrainian answer to Jewish-leadership defamation.

  3. The commonplace occurrence of Israeli snipers shooting Palestinian children.
