Vladimir Putin: Ukraine is poised to leap ahead of Russia
Letter 31          11 January 2005

George Orwell   (1903-1950)
"After a supper with the new head of the Security Service of Ukraine Stepan Khmara, the opposition leader Viktor Yanukovych is hospitalized in the Burdenko Hospital in Moscow, where he is in critical condition." maidan.org satire

Vladimir Putin:

The following maidan.org satire imagining a future Ukrainian maltreatment of Russia analogous to the recent Russian maltreatment of Ukraine serves two purposes.

First, the satire reveals to Russians who have become habituated to mistreating Ukrainians just how outrageous such conduct would seem to them if reciprocated.

Second, the satire calls to mind the possibility that with Russia regressing into authoritarianism while Ukraine progresses toward liberalism, the future may well trend toward an outcome resembling that portrayed in the satire, negative characteristics removed which is to say, toward a return of preeminence to Kyiv, the cradle of Slavic civilization.

The reason that Kyiv lost its leadership to Moscow is that being further south, it was more often overrun than was northerly and remote Moscow.  However, with today's increased stability having removed Ukraine's historical disadvantage, a Kyiv which adopts responsive government might gain an insuperable advantage over a Moscow which mires itself in despotism.

We want to see Yushchenkos government in all its beauty.  So, beginning in January, Viktor Pinchuk and Viktor Medvedchuk immigrate to London.  Inter, Novyi, STB, and ISTV pass to the control of the structures of Yulia Tymoshenkos Naftohaz-Media.

Rinat Akhmetov finances the CPU and the Party of Regions in the 2006 parliamentary elections, for which he is jailed for fifteen years: an illegally acquired pistol is found in his pocket.  A certain Synevirsk Investment Company acquires the best shares of the richest until recently citizen of Ukraine.  This company is registered two days before the auction in the village of Mali Bobryky, Ternopil oblast.  After a supper with the new head of the Security Service of Ukraine Stepan Khmara, the opposition leader Viktor Yanukovych is hospitalized in the Burdenko Hospital in Moscow, where he is in critical condition.

In 2008 Ukraine actively interferes in the Russian presidential elections.  Anatoly Hrytsenko opens the Ukrainian Club in Moscow.  Viktor Yushchenko visits Russia twice on the eve of voting and appears on all television channels in support of pro-Ukrainian candidate Dmitry Rogozin.  All Kyiv is festooned with billboards plastered with Rogozins face.  After the runoff election Kyiv mayor Oleksandr Omelchenko arrives in Grozny [Chechnya] to support a congress of separatists, during which participants discuss the questions of creating a South-Russian Caucasian Autonomous Republic and joining Kuban to Ukraine.  I want to be like Vakh Basayev! declared Omelchenko and took off his fur hat.  All Ukrainian television channels air round-the-clock documentary films about the savagery of the KGB.  The [Ukrainian rock group] Okean Elzy recorded a new video clip: As long as theres no civil war! which shows images of Putin superimposed on bloody scenes of the killings in Nord-Ost, Beslan, and the victims from the Kursk submarine.
