Irwin Cotler Can STFU

In the same week Irwin Cotler descended on Saskatchewan to declare we need "soccer fields, not prisons" denouncing the "extremist" platform of the Conservatives - the only "orange alert" for a little Saskatoon girl were the lights of a seniors home as she walked through the snow.

An agonized family member of an 11-year-old Saskatoon girl who was abducted from a home near Shellbrook Monday morning says her ordeal was much more serious than earlier reports suggested.

In a phone call Wednesday to The StarPhoenix, an uncle of the child said she was so badly choked that most of the blood vessels in her face and eyes burst, and she was also bitten. Medical staff found no indication of sexual assault.

The little girl was violently pushed out of the vehicle into the snow near Canwood and walked a considerable distance into Shellbrook without shoes or a jacket, developing frostbite on her feet, her uncle said.

"I've got an 11-year-old . . . that won't even look at people today. We're talking about a little girl that has the most gorgeous baby-blue eyes, but I can't see them anymore because there's too much blood in them," he said.

"If you saw this baby, you would cry the same way I did. She is so black and blue on her bottom, it's unbelievable. Her face is like a tomato. It's devastating."

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Brian Jones told The StarPhoenix late Tuesday that the girl was snatched from a farm house 11 kilometres west of Shellbrook sometime between 3:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. Monday, choked and forced into a vehicle.

Read it all. Local media is suggesting there's a whole lot more to know about the history of the accused, Lindon Bird. If readers have info they want to pass along, send it by email.

In Manitoba, the Liberals are addressing the root causes of crime with more funding for the Asper's "stalled Tower of Human Rights Babble (\/) at the Forks."

Cotler's the pot calling the kettle black.

The Liberals are the extremists.

Period!

Out, out, damned Liberals!

Posted by: The Canadian Sentinel at January 9, 2006 12:55 PM

I'm watching to see if the MSM cares, or if it will downplay this heinous crime against humanity on account of the race of the accused.

Will the MSM do the right thing and report the facts of the case with absolutely no consideration for race at all, or will the brainless, quasi-evil extreme left-wing political correctness forced upon Canada by the Liberal Party of Canada rule?

I think the reasonable person will be able to tell that it's the Liberals who are extreme. They cannot hide their true face any longer.

If the accused is found guilty, the penalty must be life in prison, no possibility of parole. A strong message must be sent to everyone that this kind of behavior will no longer be tolerated. Period.

What happened to the little girl is not a Canadian value.

Drop him in a mosque in a nice Pan Arabian desert and make him walk back to freedom with a "Salman Rushdie" sign in Arabic hanging from his neck.

The buzzards can take the leftovers.

This garbage about preventing crime by building soccer fields and basketball courts is proof positive the Liberals need a long walk in the snow. Barefoot, coatless and beaten.

So, we have another Lieberal scandal in the Gun Registry. Is anyone surprised? Not f***ing likely.

Irwin Cotler is a poor excuse for a man, even a lying, theiving Liberanso.

Choke, you SOB, choke!!!!!!

Posted by: Mike at January 9, 2006 01:38 PM

This kind "life is cheap" mentality; has got to go!

My daughter asked me if it was okay as an 11 year old to walk to school by herself. I told her no it wasn't okay; but she didn't fully understand at the time. One week later, a convicted rapist was released from prison. Within two days he had sexually assaulted a twelve year old in the township. I had her read the ensuing local newspaper report. I asked if she now understood why it wasn't safe for her to walk alone through a wooded area 500 meters to school. She nodded in agreement, "Yes, Papa."

Now we have girls being snatched from their bedrooms?

Whatever crime policy the Liberals had it is not working. Slaps on the wrist are just not going to cut it anymore.

Posted by: Hans Rupprecht at January 9, 2006 02:08 PM

You know, given the info from Blackrod (30 days for a ROBBERY? WTF?) and what I know about gun control, the Liberals and the Left generally are behaving like some kind of religious cult faced with evidence that goes against their beliefs. It doesn't matter how much evidence there is that their approach is not working, they keep doing it anyway. More, harder, faster, who cares if it actually works?

Posted by: The Phantom at January 9, 2006 02:08 PM

Also, should Mr. Bird be charged and found guilty it looks, from his address, that he might qualify for a sentence discount!

Posted by: maggie at January 9, 2006 02:09 PM

I am disgusted and appalled at what has happened because of the left's social engineering projects. To those who say the poor little wretch will not get rehabilitated by such stiff sentences (which are there but never given out), I say it is about time to think about the public and how keeping criminals behind bars means they are not on the streets attacking the innocent.

The justice system needs an overhaul and now is the time. It is so touchy feely that when stiffer sentences are occasionally given the defence appeals because in is much harsher that historically given. And often win. Oh, get rid of this concurrent sentencing too. The do two or more crimes and only pay for one is crap.

Posted by: Texas Canuck at January 9, 2006 02:21 PM

We used to have a judicial system that put the rights of the victim first, thanks to the Lie-berals and assholes like Cotler we see dangerous offenders getting only a slap on the wrist, then being let out to re-offend. Like I've said before, any Lie-beral's found guilty of "Crimes Against Canadians" should have to share jail cells with those convicted of gun crimes and see how they like it when having to pick up the soap.

Posted by: Bruce Randall at January 9, 2006 02:42 PM

Take heart friends, Ezra Levant is reporting that Erwin the creepiest is about to become part of Investigation # 3

"And yet another scandal brews: The RCMP has been asked to investigate Kim Doran, deputy national director of the Liberal party. Doran also is a lobbyist whose firm received more than $380,000 from the government to lobby ... the government! The justice minister, a Liberal, paid Doran, a Liberal, $380,000 to lobby the solicitor General and other Liberals." (from the Calgary SUN Jan 09 2006.)

Does it seem to anyone else that the RCMP might be trying to get out from under the thumb of the Liberals?

I wonder how many "liberal - ocialist" voters with eleven year old daughters , are going to wake up , and see whats going on.
It isn't that hard and it shouldn't take sad
stories like this to wake them up.
I can't reason one excuse , for liberal inaction
on doing whats really right and of real VALUE to Canadians.

My heart goes out to that family its terrible , my youngest is her age , and has beautiful blue eyes also......

Taxes: whose cuts are the deepest?
By Ira Basen,CBC.ca Reality Check Team | Jan. 9, 2006 | More Reality Check

Ever since CBC Reality Check reported on Friday that a Conservative government plans to rescind income tax cuts that have been in effect since Jan. 1, there has been much back and forth on the campaign trail about which party truly has taxpayers interests at heart. The Conservatives issued a press release calling our report "misleading" and "false," but agreed that the Liberal cuts to personal income tax would indeed be rolled back by 2007.

On the other hand, our Reality Check promises chart confirms that the Conservatives are correct when they assert that Canadians will be paying less tax under a government led by Stephen Harper. In fact, its not even close. As of Friday, Jan. 6, the Conservatives have promised $58.4 billion in tax cuts spread over the next five years, compared to $40.8 billion for the NDP and $33.4 billion for the Liberals.

The rest is spin shit, stating that the Libs and Conservatives have already spent the surplus of the next ten years, and that Finance departments are sometimes wrong.

Sometimes??? When was the last time the Federal department of Finance was right??? 1992 maybe??

We don't need more "soccer fields", we need football pitches! And some more prisons, while we're at it, thank you.

The make work program we call Canadian Justice,
is exactly that, a make work program.

We have far to many lawyers and judges, for a nation of 32 million, all these lawyers and judges have children and family members, either in the law(educational system) or paper pushing in some capacity(parole, probation or rehab).
For lawyers and judges, the revolving door justice system they propogate, keeps them employed.
If the judges did their job and locked up the repeat troublemakers, two things would happen.

1. crime rates would fall dramaticaly, most crime is of the repeat offender kind, the americans have it right, if you can't live in our society crimefree, then after 3 strikes you're out, and you get to live with your kind, the criminals behind bars.

Once the conservatives get elected, we can put a stop to the make work project known as The Canadian Justice System.

2. our justice system will see a considerable downsizing, we won't need all the paper pushers
and the children of lawyers and judges in the law school system now, would be wise to rethink their career choices...!!!

Cotler is the epitome of Liberal corruption. The only reality that will affect him is if he is subjected to the same law as the rest of us have to live by. No amount of blather from him will change the fact that Canada is 'governed' by a criminal organization--an organization that has lawyers making the laws for us while they see themselves as being above the law. The social engineering being foisted on Canadians by the likes of Cotler and his ilk is what has brought us to our knees. We are already on life support--is there any hope? We will only find out if we decontaminate this country of every last Liberal that is using and abusing our country.

Unfortunately, Mr. Bird is 20 years old. That would mean that anything he has done more 3 or more years ago will not be available to the public, nor will it be available for use within his trial. Yet another "gift" from our caring government.

I blame the CRTC. Regardless of what happens, they still allow the US produced crap on our tvs and that influences our producers of Canadian content. The Sopranos? That's a cable show in the US that I have to pay $24.95 on top of premium cable to get. Here I get it broadcast via public airwaves to my bedroom tv during primetime. Ph wait, we model Europe. We are prodressive. That's not progressive, that's just sick.

My point being, that if our devotion to tv really does influence the morals of the nation, then the CRTC is not doing a good job at regulating. And if the CRTC and the Canadian Association of Broadcasters can't regulate then disband them and use the money to further go toward the development of Canadian content.

Now that is off my back, I'd like to remind people out there about the mentality of the public conscience during a crime like that which was described in this story. Where law enforcement fails, where politics fail and where our children are concerned, angry mobs of emotionally charged parents usually step in and clean up the mess.

Posted by: Altruistic at January 9, 2006 05:21 PM

Unfortunately, Mr. Bird is 20 years old.

Mr.Bird should never see the light of day as a free man again. I would love to see legislation brought in that would see anyone who commits an act such of his against a child sentenced to "real" life in jail no chance of parole.
Someone who preys on the most vulnerable members of our society in my opinion can not be rehabilitated. Lock him up and throw away the key.
I'd be willing to pay more taxes if it kept monsters like this locked up for good.
My heart goes out to the precious child this monster terrorized.
If there was a way of instituting the death penalty for people like this without running the risk of executing someone who was wrongly convicted I'd be all for that too.

The only concepts of "criminal justice" Cotler had previous to this cabinet post was to strongly scold an errant member of Mount Royal's judicial coctail circuit who served an over-cilled chardonnay with the Aveyronnais stuffed truffles

How many of these type of stories go on in Canada now that you will never hear about. You can stop wondering why cops start drinkin. I made my boys read this article and talked to them about it. we agree that enough is enough. This is not our Canada anymore.

Posted by: wuberman at January 9, 2006 06:34 PM

An hour to debate time, I'd sure like to see Martin lose his cool, just once, that's all it would take. His temper behind the scenes is well known, if someone were to bring up the $162 million that his CSL took from us taxpayers to pay off his debt, that just might push him over the edge.

Posted by: Bruce Randall at January 9, 2006 06:55 PM

Isn't it bloody interesting that no leftists/Liberals have dared come onto this thread?

Of course, it's not like they could make the case for the building of soccer fields stopping evildoers from strangling children in failed murder attempts.

It's times like this that leftists shut up until the story passes... and then they'll declare that having soccer fields is a "human right" or something... and the Liberals will agree with them... and the courts will rule thusly... followed by the MSM... pretty soon we'll have soccer fields popping up all over the place... and we'll pay for them all via our taxes, all the while hearing about gun-related murders and child choking every day... and, of course, the left will then start talking about necrophilia or about starting a Taliban Party of Canada or something...

Let's just say no to leftism and the Liberals and return to common sense, for heaven's sake! Haven't we had enough already?

Posted by: Canadian Sentinel at January 9, 2006 07:03 PM

BTW, I hope Big Paulie Librano pisses in his pants tonight!

Posted by: Canadian Sentinel at January 9, 2006 07:07 PM

"Prison is not a deterrence". Do we need to build more soccer fields for the Libranos then? Or, should we "exclude" them?

Posted by: Shaken at January 9, 2006 07:10 PM

Bringing back the death penalty as an option would certainly go a long way to changing the mindset of some of the criminal element in society today.

First, i would like to send my thought and prayers to this little girl. Oh my GOD, what she must have went through. What will be the long lasting effects of this attack? Nightmares, lack of trust, the list is endless. ANYONE that hurts the innocent be it young or the elder deserves the utmost punishment possible. I was a single mother (daughter now 28yrs old). My biggest fear was how to protect her from evil. I was lucky, I kept her very close to home & heart. If anyone had ever touched her they would have faced the rage within, I would have faced the consequences. Irwin Cotler can go right to H*#@! It is because of this pathetic excuse of a Liebreal government that our countries justice system is in this mess. I agree with Mr. Harper, we need manditory sentences with no loophole for the slim to crawl out of. May peace be with this little girl and her family. We can only HOPE that justice will prevail.

Posted by: MaryM at January 9, 2006 07:46 PM

Ohh and god forbid if you caught this despicable piece of shit Bird in the act, in your home and defended your child with force! YOU would be the one going to jail for assaulting this piece of shit! This is the reality of liberal justice. I have a similar experience of this when I caught someone in my home who just trashed the place; I was charged with assault with a weopon, a baseball bat, and I naievely went to court without a lawyer because the charge is horseshit; I was defending my home. well I was convicted and recieved probation and a criminal record! what the hell!??! Police can't be everywhere all the time and these criminals know that we are not legally allowed to defend our homes. If human garbage like this knew the homeowner was legally allowed to execute them, there is one form of deterrence. Homeowwner and property rights must be enshrined in law!

Posted by: Affliction at January 9, 2006 07:55 PM

Affliction:

Has Canada thrown out the old Common Law "No Duty To Retreat" concept? They're trying to assault it here in the US. If they are illegally in your home you may use "reasonable force" and deadly force if in fear of your life in most states except, I think, Mass. where you must retreat from a home intruder.

Also, three strikes is under attack along with losing the right to vote for a felony conviction. the Demorats did a study and found that they were losing votes.

Can someone enlighten me? Is this piece of shoe crap who is being charged in this case a member of a "protected class"?

Posted by: Hungry Valley at January 9, 2006 09:05 PM

yes the fact of the matter here in canada is if you kill an intruder in defence of your own life or protection of your family, you get charged with manslaughter. That is what liberal rule has given us.

Posted by: Affliction at January 9, 2006 10:12 PM

When I was seven, just a little after the wheel was discovered, my tiny mother shot and killed an intruder with a knife in our house. He was rifling drawers and and pulled the knife when she stepped into the doorway.

She put an entire clip of .380 Colt into his boiler room and he bled out on the floor. Cops complimented her on her marksmanship and made a couple of comments about getting between mothers and bear cubs. Now, his family would file a civil suit for wrongful death. It hasn't gotten quite as bad as the UK and, now I learn, Canada. It may soon be time for the trees and lamp posts of our respecitve countries to bear the burden of selected politicians.

Posted by: Hungry Valley at January 9, 2006 11:04 PM

Hungry Valley - getting between mothers and bear cubs is a dumb thing to do. But what is even worse is to piss-off Eva Estelle, The Rambo Granny.

The Rambo Granny of Melbourne, Australia.

Gun-toting granny Ava Estelle, 81, was so ticked-off when two thugs raped her 18-year-old granddaughter that she tracked the unsuspecting ex-cons down - - and shot off their testicles.

The old lady spent a week hunting those men down -- and when she found them, she took revenge on them in her own special way, said Melbourne police investigator Evan Delp. Then she took a taxi to the nearest police station, laid the gun on the sergeant's desk and told him as calm as could be:

'Those bastards will never rape anybody again, by God.' Cops say convicted rapist and robber Davis Furth, 33, lost both his penis and his testicles when outraged Ava opened fire with a 9-mm pistol in the hotel room where he and former prison cellmate Stanley Thomas, 29, were holed up.

The wrinkled avenger also blew Thomas' testicles to kingdom come, but doctors managed to save his mangled penis, police said. The one guy, Thomas, didn't lose his manhood, but the doctor I talked to said he won't be using it the way he used to, Detective Delp told reporters. Both men are still in pretty bad shape, but I think they're just happy to be alive after what they've been through.

The Rambo Granny swung into action August 21 after her granddaughter Debbie was carjacked and raped in broad daylight by two knife-wielding creeps in a section of town bordering on skid row. "When I saw the look on my Debbie's face that night in the hospital, I decided I was going to go out and get those bastards myself 'cause I figured the Law would go easy on them," recalled the retired library worker. "And I wasn't scared of them, either-- because I've got me a gun and I've been shootin' all my life. And I wasn't dumb enough to turn it in when the law changed about owning one."

So, using a police artist's sketch of the suspects and Debbie's description of the sickos', tough-as-nails Ava spent seven days prowling the wino-infested neighborhood where the crime took place till she spotted the ill fated rapists entering their flophouse hotel.

I knew it was them the minute I saw 'em, but I shot a picture of 'em anyway and took it back to Debbie and she said sure as hell, it was them, the oldster recalled.

So I went back to that hotel and found their room and knocked on the door and the minute the big one, Furth, opened the door, I shot 'em right square between the legs, right where it would really hurt 'em most, you know.

Then I went in and shot the other one as he backed up pleading to me to spare him. Then I went down to the police station and turned myself in.

Now, baffled lawmen are trying to figure out exactly how to deal with the vigilante granny. What she did was wrong, and she broke the law, but it is difficult to throw an 81-year-old woman in prison, Det. Delp said, especially when 3 million people in the city want to nominate her for sainthood and a medal.

we can only imagine this little girls terror as she hid from oncoming cars and walked and walked and cried, it's cold and dark and she's hurt beyond belief maybe beyond repair yet she keeps walking. Cockeyed Optimist:

Great story about the Rambo Granny, but apparently not true.
http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_gun_toting_granny.htm

The little girl who was abducted and choked near Shellbrook needs justice, but threats of vigilante justice makes me uneasy.

There are discrepancies between the RCMP's story and the uncle's story that I'd like to see investigated. Hopefully blogs like SDA might result in some some tough questions being asked by the MSM.

Posted by: Phil L at January 10, 2006 01:54 PM

I truly wish the debate had focused more on the failed justice system under the Liberals, and how the Conservatives plan to implement real change.
The impression I got from Paul Martin was, if we all come together and give each other a big hug everything will sort itself out.
I for one do not buy into the "exclusion" theory, as the main source for gun/gang violence.
Being born to a single mother, whom was an alcoholic and then a drug addict by the time I was three, having suffered my share of "exclusion" never led me to join a gang or to take up arms and shoot someone.
These kids have choices, why should we coddle them and make them soccer fields when they blatantly and wrongly make the bad choice?
